New Haven, Connecticut

Overview

America’s Promise Alliance has recognized New Haven as one of its 100 Best Communities for Young People for the first time ever because of the community’s ability to come together to help address the challenges its young people face. Through collaboration, leadership, health and education initiatives, New Haven youth are being given the opportunity to engage in career development, community building and organizing. New Haven also works to provide opportunities for its youth to hear from inspirational leaders and mentors through direct interaction.  Organizations in the community are working together to support youth, including the Youth Services Bureau and Citywide Youth Coalition which regularly collaborate on  policies and programs that support young people. To help influence a higher college attendance rate, the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven helps the New Haven Promise program offer full scholarships to college for eligible students.
