Initiative for Military Families

The Initiative for Military Families webpage is a dynamic research and policy center: an interactive resource hub designed to help state and local governments, child advocates and military family supporters. We hope you use this site to learn more about military families and the best policies and practices to support them.

About the Initiative

Most Americans are unaware of the daily stresses that military families face. The Initiative for Military Families aims to build awareness about the policies and programs that work in the hope that more individuals and organizations will champion the ideas and replicate them in their own states and communities.

Great Ideas for States

While the federal government funds and controls most policies and programs that affect the daily lives of military personnel and their families, many state policies affect military families as well. This list of “great ideas” is a collection of some of the best policies and practices that states have adopted to support military families and remove the obstacles that make their lives difficult.
