America’s Promise Alliance forms Communications Advisory Group

America’s Promise Alliance created the Communications Advisory Group (CAG) to guide the launch of its Grad Nation campaign, the next phase of the Alliance’s work to end the dropout crisis, and continue a high level of collaboration among Alliance trustees. The group comprises senior communications professionals from our trustee partners. CAG members will discuss such topics as messaging, social media, traditional media outreach, speaking engagements, newsletters and more. The group will also share ideas and best practices that will help change the national dialogue from a focus on the problem to a focus on community solutions.

“We believe it’s more important than ever for cross-sector organizations to speak with one voice about issues affecting children and youth,” said David T. Park, senior vice president, Communications & Marketing, America’s Promise Alliance. “The Communications Advisory Group will be a way for us to share ideas, combine resources, and ultimately put a communications plan in place that raises awareness of Grad Nation and what various constituencies can do to create lasting change.”

The first CAG meeting will take place at America’s Promise Alliance headquarters in Washington, D.C. on March 18, and begin with an overview of Grad Nation, from Carmita Vaughan, chief strategy officer, and David Park. We will also include several presentations and discussions, including a presentation on the 100 Best Communities for Young People competition, the America’s Promise Alliance Speaker’s Bureau, and discussions about Grad Nation messaging and partner initiatives that can fit within the Grad Nation framework.

The group will meet quarterly throughout 2010.
