Dallas Dropout Prevention Summit
Summit Location: University of Texas at Dallas
- Over the past five years, United Way Metropolitan Dallas has been working in partnership with community stakeholders around the issues of Early Childhood Development and Dropout Prevention through our Born Learning and Destination: Graduation Programs. Key community leaders and experts were convened in a strategic planning process that has resulted in the creation of 10 year community impact goals and strategies in the areas of Education, Income, and Health.
- Our Education goal for 2020 is to double the post secondary education success rate across our region. Currently, only 40% of the students who graduate from Dallas area schools are college and career ready, as measured by the state academic assessment exams. Strategies to support this goal include: Parent Engagement, Academic, College, and Career Preparation, Early Childhood Development, Math and Science Initiatives, English Language Learning, and Quality Out of School Time.
- The summit will engage a broad audience of education professionals, community and civic leaders, local chambers of commerce, corporations, and faith communities across our four county service area (Dallas, Collin, Southern Denton, and Rockwall Counties) in this work. The main objectives of the Summit will be: to increase awareness of our Education goal and strategies; to inspire participants to become community champions for this work; and to gather feedback to be integrated into implementation plans being developed Summer 2010.
