Denver, CO Dropout Prevention Summit

Highlights:

  • Convened by the Denver Mayor’s Office, Denver's Summit was an invitation only working event extended to seven of Denver Public Schools traditional high schools and their teams as identified by the Office of Post Secondary Readiness.
  • The primary goal of the summit was to provide school teams with information about a) Integration of behavioral and instruction strategies within the Response to Intervention framework and b) Key policy developments in graduation and drop out field. This information was designed to inform local School Improvement Plans which are currently being finalized by Denver Public School’s Office of Post Secondary Readiness. More specifically, the goal addressed by the summit was “to ensure that 85% of all 9th graders are on track for graduation”. This goal was set by the district in fall 2009.
  • Denver’s Multiple Pathways to Graduation Summit began with short comments from key leaders in the district and the City of Denver. Each school team came together to identify and prioritize 3 school-based goals aligned with their School Improvement Plan. Teams operationalized these goals by describing success and identifying how to measure that success.
