Flint, MI Community Summit
Flint and Genesee County, Michigan
Summer Youth Expo and ReMix Connection Fair
The 3rd Annual Summer Youth Expo will help connect organizations offering youth-oriented programs, camps, services, job training and educational opportunities this summer with families and children from birth to college age. New this year, with support of partners including America’s Promise Alliance GradNation initiative, the Summer Youth Expo will include a ReMix Connection Fair that provides a direct connection to organizations that serve young people ages 16-24 who are at risk of dropping out of school, do not have a diploma/GED, do not have a job and face other barriers to successful entry into adulthood. There are over 7,500 “disconnected” youth in Genesee County and we hope to reach this population to provide access to homeless services coordinators, alternative education sites, credit recovery programs, legal assistance, heath access and other supportive services that a young person may be facing due to disconnection with school.
In addition, there will be a mobile Secretary of State office on site to issue identifications and to provide counseling for individuals needing identification exceptions. The Department of Treasury will have staff that can assist participants with understanding and addressing driver responsibility fees. Additionally, the Department of Health and Human Services will have staff with benefit eligibility. Finally, the Genesee County Clerk will be at the event from 3-5pm to assist young people aged 16-24 years old with applying for a FREE copy of their birth certificate.
