Florida's Dropout Prevention Action Plan

Progress Since the Summit

  • Florida has held a statewide dropout prevention conference for the last 3 years in partnership with the National Dropout Prevention Center to bring national models and best practices to the state. This year’s summit helped bring more people to the discussion, especially from the faith-based community. State Farm also became a new partner via the summit, and new contacts were made with organizations like 100 Black Men, NAACP, and Florida’s Front Porch communities.
  • The Florida Department of Education has a new deputy chancellor since the summit. The number one priority for the K-12 part of the department is “differentiated accountability” and the program that Florida is piloting as one of six states chosen by the US Department of Education in July 2008.
