Miami Education Summit

Event Description

Nearly 200 youth, teachers, parents, educators, elected officials, and members of the business community participated in the Miami-Dade GradNation Summit on November 7. The summit focused its agenda on lowering the achievement gap and a need to support young African American males in their academic careers. 

Guest speakers included Miami-Dade Public School Board Member Raquel Regalado, Florida State Senator Dwight Bullard, Mark Edwards, executive director of Opportunity Nation, Saif Ishoof, executive director of City Year Miami, and CNN Anchor Don Lemon, who moderated a series of panels including Solutions Working with Boys of Color, and Through Their Eyes - Insights from Our Students. 

Members in the community in key sectors including business, civic, media, non-profits, local government, educators, philanthropy, the faith community, parents, and young people attended the summit, which was free and open to the public.
