New Jersey Dropout Prevention Summit
The State Attorney General, Office of the Governor and the Nicholson Foundation partnered together to showcase the findings of their year-long, state dropout prevention campaign. The summit drew more than 1200 people and keynote addresses came from Governor Corzine, Attorney General Anne Milgram, Dr. Pedro Noguera, Executive Director of Metropolitan Center for Urban Studies, Commissioner Lucille Davy and Nina Mitchell Wells, Secretary of State. Over the course of the year, the state held five regional summits that helped to inform their plans to abate large numbers of students dropping out of school. New Jersey developed a plan of action that includes a vision, framework and six principles to maintain a student’s interest in school. A “Best Practices” Conference for the state is being planned for the spring of 2010 and more information about the NJ Dropout Prevention campaign can be found at www.njgraduation.org.
