National Character Counts! Week takes taking place October 19-25, 2008. The campaign was founded by the Josephson Institute to help focus the country’s attention on the benefits of good character and character education.
During last year’s events, more than 5 million young people in 51 countries celebrated the core ethical values that form the foundation of Josephson Institute programs and materials, known as the Six Pillars of Character —Trustworthiness; Respect; Responsibility; Fairness; Caring; and Citizenship.
This year young people around the globe will connect with others, regardless of political and religious affiliations, to celebrate the universal values we all share.
The Character Counts! Coalition embraces more than 900 organizations and thousands of schools. Members include schools, districts, municipalities, human-service agencies, youth-service groups, and businesses. Collectively these organizations reach more than 7 million young people every day.
