Points of Light opens Corps 18 applications

Apr 4, 2014

Corps18, an education-based program of Points of Light, seeks to address the issue of chronic absenteeism. Points of Light seeks high-quality host sites for (Volunteers in Service to America) VISTA Corps members to serve 12-month terms starting in August 2014.  VISTA*AmeriCorps members will serve within local schools or host site organizations, building their capacity and infrastructures to engage parents, community and corporate volunteers in service, while also improving academic outcomes for students.

The Corps 18 Program provides out of school programming that fosters a greater connection among students, families, and community members. In the process, students participate in a variety of subjects that include academic tutoring, health and wellness initiatives, STEM programs, and other activities. This effort will involve committed volunteers and parent engagement, which is expected to reduce truancy and improve student attitudes toward the value of education.

For additional information please see the Notice of Funds Available and Program Overview. Points of Light recently did a webinar on the program and application process which you can view here.
