North Carolina Graduation Summit

Summit Location: Raleigh, NC


Led by Communities In Schools of North Carolina, the North Carolina Graduation Summit was a catalyst for key community leaders to implement effective, research-based strategies to improve graduation rates in North Carolina. About 300 participants attended, consisting of leadership teams of three to five representatives from each county in North Carolina. Dozens of business leaders attended a special business breakfast. Presenters at the summit included Lt. Governor Walter Dalton; State Superintendent of Education, June Atkinson, Bob Balfanz, Co-director, Everyone Graduates Center; Bill Milliken, Founder & Vice-Chair, Communities In Schools and Shelley Stewart, Founder and President of The Mattie C. Stewart Foundation. Over 50 Information Stations, programs, initiatives and organizations from NC that provide replicable, proven, research-based strategies and solutions, were presented at the summit. Next steps include follow-up regional events for more intensive local planning around increasing the graduation rate.
