Philadelphia Dropout Prevention Summit
Summit Location: Circa Center, 2929 Arch Street
The summit was convened by the Philadelphia Youth Network through the “Project U Turn” campaign which is a city-wide initiative to raise awareness of Philadelphia's dropout crisis. The summit was named the “Promising Practices Symposium” which was held to update partners and community stakeholders on the progress and future direction of the Project U-Turn Campaign. The event was coupled with a series of interactive workshops that featured dropout prevention and re-engagement strategies.
The Symposium provided attendees with access to information and resources that support their daily work of ensuring Philadelphia youth develop the skills necessary to be successful within current educational system. The last key highlight was that youth leadership and action was threaded throughout the Symposium. Youth leaders staffed the registration tables, moderated the Symposium, participated on a panel, facilitated workshops and closed the day with a presentation of the research project designed to learn more about students' satisfaction within the School District of Philadelphia's Multiple Pathways to Graduation programs.
