Rhode Island Dropout Prevention Summit



Convened by Rhode Island KIDS COUNT, this small state summit convened approximately 150 people. The planning committee included participants from HASBRO, Providence Schools, Urban Collaborative, the Governor’s Office, Young Voices, the RI Foundation, Department of Labor and Training and the After School Alliance. Keynotes were given by the Governor Carcieri, Dr. Bob Balfanz, Superintendent Frances Gallo and Elaine Budish of RI KIDS COUNT. Break out sessions were formulated around the following topics: College Preparation – Access & Success, Multiple Pathways to Graduation, PreK-12 Literacy, Improving School Discipline and Attendance, School Climate and After School Systems and Extended Learning Time.
