The Coalition for Community Schools in partnership with the National Association for Secondary School Principals is pleased to release a review of eight community schools yielding evidence of rising graduation and college going rates and a reduction in dropout rates. America’s Promise Alliance brought together community teams, national partners and funding partners – all committed to the goal of helping the nation cut the dropout rate in half by 2018 – for the Grad Nation Action Forum September 16-18 in Washington, D.C.

More than 20 summits will be held in September and October in cities across the country, with more to come before the end of 2009.

In an effort to reduce America’s high school dropout rates, the Alliance introduced the Dropout Prevention Campaign in April 2008. More than 45 Dropout Prevention Summits have been held in cities nationwide – bringing together more than 14,000 mayors and governors, business owners, child advocates, school administrators, students and parents to develop workable solutions and action plans. Summits were recently held in Cincinnati, St. Louis and Maryland. Upcoming summits include West Virginia, Maine and Montana.
