National PTA: Parents' Guide to Student Success

The National Parent Teacher Association has created guides to the Common Core States Standards,  in both English and Spanish, that show parents and other caregivers the value of the standards. There is a separate four-page guide for each grade from kindergarten through 8th grade, and then one guide for English language arts for grades 9-12 and one mathematics guide for grades 9-12.

National PTA and the Harvard Family Research Project have partnered to author this brief, which describes how investments in student data systems are taking family engagement and student achievement to a whole new level. In addition to addressing areas where a student most needs improvement, the data can serve as a catalyst for home-school communication.

Parents' Guide to Student Success

The National PTA has produced guides on the Common Core State Standards for parents.These guides empower parents to work with state and district leaders to ensure that the Common Core State Standards are implemented effectively in schools across the country. National PTA has released a total of 11 guides, including one guide for each grade, K-8, and two guides for high school in English language arts and mathematics. The guides are also available in Spanish.

Released by the Harvard Family Research Project, Seeing is Believing: Promising Practices for How School Districts Promote Family Engagement spotlights how six school districts across the country have used innovative strategies to create and sustain family engagement “systems at work.” Their findings point to three core components of these successful systems: creating district-wide strategies, building school capacity, and reaching out to and engaging families.
State Laws on Family Engagement in Education

A new publication from the National PTA provides key facts, background, analysis, noteworthy statutes, and policy recommendations for state PTAs and other family and child advocates for crafting successful school-family engagement legislation at the state level. The reference guide has two declared purposes. It provides information on family engagement provisions within state education laws, so that families can better advocate for their children's education on the school and district levels.
