Shreveport Dropout Prevention Summit

Summit Location:
Southern University at Shreveport

Highlights:

Building on the Learning to Finish education initiative, the City of Shreveport, Caddo Parish Public Schools, Caddo Parish District Attorney, Caddo Parish Sheriff, Southern University-Shreveport, Volunteers of America, Community Foundation of Shreveport-Bossier and Alliance for Education joined together to generate solutions to curb this dropout crisis with a special focus on parental engagement. Over 300 people attended the event themed Parent University. The intent of Learning to Finish has been to raise awareness of the graduation rate crisis and to engage community partners to collaborate with the schools to provide an integrated continuum of support services and programs that eliminate barriers to high school graduation, offer children and youth safe and health environments and provide them with the care and support of responsible adults. Learning to Finish and the summit partners have merged work with the teams designated by the Louisiana's Promise effort that began in October 2008.
