Wisconsin Dropout Prevention Summit

Summit Location:  Country Springs Hotel and Convention Center, 2810 Golf Road, Pewaukee, WI 53187

Highlights:

  • The purpose of the summit is to increase attendance and graduation in the 30 communities with highest rates of habitual truancy and dropouts, with special attention to students of color.
  • State Superintendent Tony Evers, in collaboration with youth leaders and multiple stakeholders, will convene and lead a statewide summit to increase attendance and graduation, thus reducing dropouts.  The summit will feature youth who were at risk but succeeded in increasing attendance and graduating, as well as local leaders who are implementing effective practices.  Examples of best practices will highlight cross-system collaboration, where education, human services, health, juvenile justice, and others collaborate to improve attendance and graduation rates.
  • The project goal is to increase graduation rates in the long term by building local community capacity to reduce the number of dropouts and habitual truants, in districts with high numbers or rates of dropouts and habitual truants. The goal for all local coalitions developing and implementing an action plan will be to reduce the number of dropouts by 50% by completion of the 2009-2010 school year.
