Diverse Experiences, Shared Power: A Roundtable Highlighting Youth Leadership in the Asian American and Pacific Islander Community

On May 25, 2021, America’s Promise Alliance hosted Diverse Experiences, Shared Power—a virtual roundtable highlighting youth leadership in the Asian American and Pacific Islander community and the need for more representation of this community in education and other youth-supporting systems. The conversation featured the stories and perspectives of AAPI youth and adult leaders, showcasing the work they’ve been doing to uplift their unique experiences and challenges and make their voices heard.

The roundtable explored the wide diversity of AAPI heritage; examined the ways youth leaders from the AAPI community are building bridges with other youth leaders of color; discussed the stereotypes, prejudice, and lack of representation facing AAPI youth; and engaged in impactful dialogue about how those in the youth-supporting space can celebrate and support the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.

This roundtable is part of a larger series that America’s Promise is hosting to shed light on the lived experiences of diverse populations of young people, many of whom must fight to make their perspectives heard and valued.
