America’s Promise Joins Partners to Send Letter to New Federal School Safety Commission

In the spirit of collaboration and to support the current movement to create and preserve schools as safe places for young people, America’s Promise Alliance, along with two other partner organizations working together as part of the Together for Healthy and Successful Schools initiative, have sent a letter to Education Secretary Betsy Devos and the Federal School Safety Commission to inform the Commission’s efforts.

The Together for Healthy and Successful Schools initiative believes that it is imperative that the Commission’s work to prevent school shootings and other forms of violence leverage what has worked in school communities. By helping schools better support student mental health, physical health, and social and emotional development, we can greatly reduce the risk that students will engage in violent behaviors. Accordingly, the Together for Healthy and Successful Schools initiative will provide education stakeholders with tools to better understand how to successfully integrate such comprehensive approaches into schools, communities, and policies.

America’s Promise Alliance, Child Trends, and For the Sake of All welcomes the opportunity to inform the Federal Commission on School Safety about the work of the Together for Healthy and Successful Schools initiative and about how to make our schools healthy, successful, and above all, safe.
