Recess Checkup

December 03, 2018

It can be tough to know the impact your play space has on your school’s culture and students’ experience throughout the school day.  And while there are a lot of solutions worth trying, it can be difficult to figure out where to start. One of Playworks’ most popular tools to-date is the Recess Checkup, a short 3-5 minute online quiz designed to help educators identify strengths and surface areas for improvement on their playground.  The Recess Checkup explores three indicators of safe and healthy play including safety, engagement, and empowerment and provides tailored resources to address areas of improvement that are surfaced during the assessment.

Playworks

Playworks is the leading national nonprofit leveraging the power of play to transform children’s social and emotional health. We are changing school culture by leveraging the power of safe, fun, and healthy play at school every day.

We create a place for every kid on the playground to feel included, be active, and build valuable social and emotional skills. Playworks partners with schools, districts, and afterschool programs to provide a service or mix of services including on-site coaches, professional training for school staff who support recess, and consultative partnerships.
