Recess Lab

December 03, 2018

With more than 20 years of experience working with elementary schools, Playworks launched Recess lab to support principals, teachers and other school staff to rediscover the power of play.  Schools with a healthy culture of play see fewer fights, fewer injuries, and fewer trips to the principal’s office - and students com back to class ready to learn. Recess Lab is a collection of free online resources designed to address common areas of concern on the playground and throughout the school day including strategies for making the most of transition times, simple tools for conflict resolution, tips for building positive peer-peer and adult-student relationships, and systems for reducing chaos on the playground.

Playworks

Playworks is the leading national nonprofit leveraging the power of play to transform children’s social and emotional health. Playworks currently serves more than 1,300 schools in 23 U.S. cities, and reaches more than 700,000 students directly and through professional training services. We are changing school culture by leveraging the power of safe, fun, and healthy play at school every day.

We create a place for every kid on the playground to feel included, be active, and build valuable social and emotional skills. Playworks partners with schools, districts, and afterschool programs to provide a service or mix of services including on-site coaches, professional training for school staff who support recess, and consultative partnerships.
