New research on nation’s high school dropout crisis shows decline in dropout factories

A report released by America’s Promise Alliance, Civic Enterprises and Johns Hopkins University’s Everyone Graduates Center shows the nation continues to make progress in its efforts to keep students in school. The report found that the number of high schools graduating 60 percent or less of students on time decreased by 112 between 2008 and 2009.

Walmart Foundation grant to support Grad Nation in five cities over two years

America’s Promise Alliance has received a $1 million dollar grant from the Walmart Foundation to support its Grad Nation campaign. The grant will be used to support dropout prevention work in select cities over two years. The first round of Grad Nation Community Grants will be awarded to:  Detroit, Mich; Louisville, Ky.; Nashville, Tenn; Oakland, Calif. and Washington, D.C.  These grants, in the amounts of $79,500 each, will help ensure each community has a full-time staff member to oversee the coordination of ongoing dropout prevention work and make progress on specific focus areas…

America’s Promise Alliance and DeVry announce multi-year partnership to increase graduation rates

America’s Promise Alliance (the Alliance) and DeVry Inc. have announced a major, multi-year partnership to help increase high school and college graduation rates across the country. City of Sacramento and California Mayors host State of California Graduation Summit with goal to increase graduation rates

WestEd held the California Mayors Graduation Summit April 29 as part of the national movement supported by America's Promise Alliance, AT&T and State Farm, along with the James Irvine Foundation. The summit was hosted by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson along with other mayors from across the state including San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom; Stockton Mayor Anne Johnston, Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates and Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox.

AT&T Contributes $1 Million for Grad Nation to support student-led programs that tackle the dropout crisis
