What one factor is most responsible for the nation’s highest on-time high school graduation rate? According to a new report, it all comes down to data. In Sealing the Cracks: Using graduation data, policy, and practice to keep all kids on track, the Data Quality Campaign says that state and national leaders helped raise graduation rates by prioritizing quality, comparable data about which students actually graduated and which ones fell through the cracks.
“Data for Diplomas” Contest Winners Announced

The winners of AT&T’s “Data for Diplomas” contest offers innovative ways to use public data sets to produce new insights that will, in turn, help reach the GradNation goal of a 90 percent on-time high school graduation rate by 2020. AT&T is a long-term supporter of the GradNation campaign and currently serves as the lead sponsor of the annual Building a Grad Nation report and the premier sponsor of the GradNation Community Summits.
America’s Promise Alliance Welcomes College Ease

College Ease, a nonprofit that provides an online space for high school students to connect with potential colleges, recently joined America’s Promise Alliance as a national partner. The organization provides an online service for both students and colleges. Students can create an online profile with their interests and achievements, including work experience, extracurriculars and hobbies.

We want to talk to you about our nation’s high schools for a moment.    In 2008, the Department of Education required all states, for the first time, to use the same calculation for their high school graduation rate -- a key accountability measure that this administration has embraced. In 2010, President Obama and Secretary Duncan joined the America’s Promise Alliance at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to launch the GradNation campaign, setting a national goal of a 90 percent high school completion rate by 2020.
