Denice Kelley is a seasoned non-profit leader in the education space, specializing in using human development psychology to guide leadership and organizational development, performance management, and program implementation to positively impact outcomes. Prior to America’s Promise, she served as iMentor’s Managing Director of Strategy, leading the design and execution on the implementation of iMentor’s 5-year strategic plan. During the pandemic, Denice took on the role of Interim Executive Director for a turnaround region at iMentor and successfully stewarded the Bay Area to financial health and programmatic success.

Before iMentor, Denice used her multi-disciplinary background to provide consulting services, such as strategic planning, organizational assessments, and workshops to myriad organizations spanning the non -profit and for- profit landscape. She is enthusiastic about helping organizations align leadership, strategy, DEI, and systems to create truly effective and inclusive organizational practices that lead to mission-driven outcomes.

Passionate about evidence-based practice, Denice co-developed an equity-based rubric for assessing middle school math teacher’s instruction for ELLs and students of color as part of a multi-year study out of MIST at Vanderbilt University. The rubric is used to coach teachers in best practices for increasing mathematical achievement among low-performing students. She also co-authored a chapter in Systems for Instructional Improvement: Creating Coherence from the Classroom to the District Office, a landmark text from the MIST study, published by Harvard University Press in 2018.

She holds a Masters in Leadership and Organizational Performance from Vanderbilt University, a Masters of Divinity from Yale University, and a B.A. in American Race and Ethnic Studies from Whitman College.
