Rachel Stephens-Murphy is a Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships at America's Promise Alliance, where she supports America's Promise's campaigns and initiatives with a specific focus on How Learning Happens and GradNation.
Rachel credits her fierce passion for equitable access to education and social-emotional learning to her own educational experiences in metro Atlanta. As a student, she experienced the transformational impact educators can play in a young person's life and the harsh reality of a broken education system. Over the past decade, Rachel has continually worked within the private, public, and educational sectors with a focus on dismantling inequities. Prior to working for America's Promise Alliance, she was an elementary school teacher and a Director of Community Initiatives at the YMCA, where she served as a Partnerships for Social and Emotional Learning Initiative (PSELI) OST intermediary in a city-wide effort to align SEL practices across settings in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Rachel received her B.A in Political Science at Georgia College and State University. She was a GCSU Leadership Program Fellow, a Leadership for Educational Equity Public Leaders Fellow, a Southern Education Leadership Initiative Intern for Voices for Georgia's Children, and an All for Good Marketing Intern at Points of Light, where she worked to promote Michelle Obama's "Joining Forces" campaign.
In her spare time, Rachel enjoys spending time with her dog, collecting inspirational quotes, and analyzing themes in popular television shows.
