Sylvia is an educator at heart and a seasoned non-profit leader, passionate about bringing people and ideas together in partnership for social change.
Prior to APA, Sylvia was the Managing Director of Mentor Community at iMentor, where she led the national strategy to deepen engagement of over 10,000 matched mentors. This included recruiting thousands of mentors annually across 4 regions, raising over $1M in grassroots donations from the mentor community, leading the execution of a new multi-year equity mentor education program, and launching an alumni community. Prior to iMentor, Sylvia was the Director of Development at The Adventure Project where she raised revenue to support social entrepreneurial programs in Africa. She also held various development and program roles at Concern Worldwide US, a humanitarian organization, where she helped to build and implement a major gifts program and individual giving strategy and led the corporate and community fundraising efforts.
Sylvia started her career as an elementary and middle school teacher in both Canada and NYC. She holds a Masters of Arts in International Educational Development from Teachers College, Columbia University and a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts from Queen’s University in Canada. Sylvia lives in Pelham, NY with her husband and two kids.
