GradNation Wilmington Regional Community Summit

Event Name

GradNation Wilmington Regional Community Summit

Like our previous dropout prevention events, the focus is on awareness of solutions and what is working to increase high school graduation rates. We are including the Five Promises that increase a young person’s chance of success: caring adults, safe places, an effective education, a healthy start and opportunities to help others. We expect teams of educators, organizations, parents, students, business and community members. The goal is to learn about successful programs in the region and develop action plans for area school districts.

Keynote Speaker(s):

Darrell Scott from Rachel’s Challenge!

Darrell is Rachel’s father and the founder of the Rachel’s Challenge program. He has spoken to millions of people around the world. He has authored or co-authored five books, and meets with politicians and educators regularly concerning issues of school violence.

Rachel’s Challenge includes programs that equip students and adults to create and sustain safe, caring and supportive learning environments essential for academic achievement. The programs are based on the writings and life of 17 year-old Rachel Scott who was the first student killed at Columbine High School in 1999. Rachel left a legacy of reaching out to those who were different, who were picked on by others, or who were new at her school.
